Samsung seems to be eying the communicator market currently dominated by Nokia and Windows-based smartphones out there.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 26, 2009 -
Samsung seems to be eying the communicator market currently dominated by Nokia and Windows-based smartphones out there.  Samsung’s new Omnia Pro B7619 does a catch-up with a generously specified QWERTY slider poised to penetrate the market with ease and give its competitors in this class some formidable beating.

The Omnia PRO at a glance

For a start, the Samsung B7610 Omnia PRO is one handsome QWERTY slider with exquisite ergonomics to impress its target markets used to navigating other communicators.

•   This is basically a quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/2100 MHz, HSDPA 3.6Mbps.  The high-speed data connectivity is expected to boost web surfing and downloading on the Internet and is now a standard features on all serious business messaging phones.

•   It runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS that’s upgradeable to the latest 6.5 iteration. Samsung customizes its proprietary TouchWiz 2.0 User Interface.

•   It’s powered by an 800 MHz processor engine with a graphics accelerator which is unique among business messaging smartphones.

•   The large 3.5" AMOLED resistive touchscreen with WVGA resolution supporting 16 million colors dominates the phone’s front panel, virtually guaranteeing vibrant image quality. There’s an accelerometer for automatic screen orientation rotate.  One caveat is that while the screen itself has a 24bit color depth capability, the 64k color depth limitation of the Windows Mobile OS occasionally results in color banding.

•   The Omnia Pro B7610 takes on a full QWERTY side-slider form factor typically used in flagship and mid-priced communicators, whether using Windows or Symbian as in the case of Nokia specimens.

•   Sporting a relatively slim form at 112.6 x 57.8 x 16.2 mm, it weighs a hefty 159g which is common for QWERTY sliders in its class and price range.

•   You get a generous 1GB of built-in memory storage, 256 MB RAM, and a hot-swappable microSD expansion slot that can take in up to 32 GB.

•   There’s a capable 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with dual LED flash to round off its perfunctory imaging feature.

•   VGA video recording at 30 fps is among the best in mobile phone video capture.

•   Local high speed connectivity is supported with Wi-Fi/WLAN

•   Its multimedia players support all the popular audio and video codecs with Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP so you can use wireless stereo earphones.  There’s a 3.5mm audio output jack should you prefer to use your home high fidelity headphones.

•   There the standard satellite navigation features with a GPS receiver and A-GPS.

•   Phone life between charging is supported with a powerful 1500mAh Li-Ion battery.

Watch out Nokia, Sony and HTC. You are facing a formidable QWERTY slider Smartphone. 2010 will be a tough time for phones in this class.
