Mr. Chanchai Chairungruang, Minister of Industry, revealed after the business match-making session, a part of the investment road show to open Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) ’s third Chinese office – the first one in Shanghai and the second in Beijing - in Guangzhou, that a great number of Chinese businessmen have expressed interest to partner with Thai business operators in various sectors including food processing, electronics, electrical appliances, metal products, agriculture and real estate. During the session, 9 MOU were signed and successfully generated Bht 20 billion in trade and investment value.
“The business match-making seems to be an effective way of attracting foreign investment to Thailand. China is considered a very promising country because of its high investment potential,” said Mr. Chanchai.
The business match-making and networking were also arranged for 24 Thai and 117 Chinese businessmen who are members of the World Eminence Chinese Business Association (WECBA) in food processing, rice, rubber, electronics and electrical appliances, automotive parts, plastic, etc.
Dr. Atchaka Sibunruang Brimble, BOI Secretary General said that the road show to Guangzhou is expected to draw new Chinese trade and investment worth Bht 20 billion. We believe more investment will flow into the country from our road shows in the future as the investment climate in Thailand has started to improve resulting from the government’s economic stimulus packages as well as the recovering global economy.
The next BOIroad show will be launched on the location of the opening of its Stockholm office, Sweden in September 2009. Currently, BOI has 12 overseas offices in different countries including Frankfurt of Germany; Paris of France; New York and Los Angeles of the United States; Tokyo and Osaka of Japan; Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou of China, Sydney of Australia and Taipei of Taiwan.
