Vancouver, BC – Sandy Gerber, 3 DEGREES WEST has been nominated to win The SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a readers' choice contest designed to find Canada's top Mom Entrepreneur. The winner will be announced in the fall, and will be rewarded with a $15,500 that was designed to help take that business to the next level.
North Vancouver’s single mom, Sandy Gerber, has been nominated as Canada’s 2009 Mom Entrepreneur of the Year. Humbled and excited by this news, Gerber is a popular candidate for the prestigious award. She is very connected to mom organizations across the country and is one of the few nominees who plans on giving back her prize award to benefit others.
Her family life and new role as a mother prompted her to rethink her priorities. In 2004, Gerber left her high paying executive career with BC Lotteries, put a Crayola “In/Out” sign on her bedroom door and began her own consulting company, 3 Kids Media, which merged with Twist Multimedia to become 3 DEGREES WEST in 2005. The move ensured a more flexible schedule and time with her children. In addition to running a successful company, she happily hosts play dates, attends school functions and reads stories with her kids.
“Most of the most rewarding mom entrepreneur moments for me have come at unique moments...being present mid morning when my daughter flirted at school for the first time, practicing my workshop introduction with my kids as my pretend audience, picking up kids from school after a new client meeting, seeing my business card in my son's Spiderman backpack and so many more. The true reward is seeing the pride in my kids eyes, the way I look at my own entrepreneur mom!”
3 DEGREES WEST Design & Communications is a successful brand, creative and marketing company located in Vancouver. Gerber and her business partner, Karley Cunningham, plan on developing their Brands for a Better World program in 2010 and are excited that this award would help them with the program.
“Brands For A Better World is a 3 DEGREES WEST initiative for us to make a difference in the world at a grass roots level. We believe there are not enough hands giving back to those that need it most. A percentage of our profit goes towards involving us in charitable projects so that we may impact and inspire agents of change around the world. In 2008, I worked in a poverty relief project in Nicaragua. Through Bridges to Community, I spent 1 week building a cement house for a family.”
This prestigious award has been awarded to incredible Canadian Mom Entrepreneurs such as Martha Scully, Canadian Sitters Inc. , Cynthia Esp, Mabel’s Labels and more. The Savvy Mom Entrepreneur of the Year award is founded Savvy Media Inc., and supported by Today’s Parent, Enterprising Mom’s Network and Joe Fresh Style, just to name a few.
