Ohio Department Of Health Approves Puraflo® Residential Wastewater System For Two Foot Soil Depth

Bord na Mona’s Puraflo® system is the eco-friendly, high performance, passive, natural solution for residential and community wastewater treatment applications where simple, reliable operation and maintenance are required.

Aug. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The Ohio Department of Health, and the state’s Sewage Treatment Technical Advisory Committee, has approved the Bord na Mona Puraflo® Peat Fiber Biofilter wastewater treatment solution for two-foot soil depth credit installations, as authorized under Chapter 3718.04 of the Ohio Revised Code.

The Technical Advisory Committee review is intended to ensure that pre-treatment component reliability and effluent quality is achieved and maintained in accordance with the standards and provisions of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) Chapter 3701-29.  The Puraflo system was tested and proven to meet the fecal coliform standard of 1,000 colonies /100mL.  The approval is effective immediately, according to Charles Ray, Regional Territory Manager for Bord Na Mona Environmental Products U.S. Inc.

“The Puraflo Peat Biofilter treatment system is a superior low energy natural wastewater treatment solution for on-site wastewater treatment requirements,” Ray said today.  “In addition to an aesthetically pleasing solution, Puraflo has a lower life-cycle cost than a majority of the systems on the market”

“And we are very pleased to now have the approval of the Ohio Department of Health for the two-foot soil depth credit installations.”

Delivered in a pre-assembled modular unit that reduces installation costs, the Puraflo solution can be installed in bottom-less or closed bottom configurations, which makes it an ideal treatment solution in difficult soil, shallow water table, and lot size restrictive applications.  It is a single pass system that does not require blowers, complex control panels or recirculation pumps.  As a result, this low energy, time-dosed solution, provides long-term savings for homeowners while meeting LEED and other green building standards.

“The benefit of our 2’ soil depth credit provides the homeowner with the ability to put a “less complicated” Puraflo system, where many systems cannot be installed due to a limiting soil condition,” Ray emphasized.  “This is accomplished without the need for chlorination or UV which provides a Puraflo system owner with a lower upfront cost and includes decreases in the overall life-cycle investment.”

The key to the Puraflo system is that it utilizes a natural peat fiber, which is a by-product of the energy production industry.  It protects the public health and the environment by removing greater than 99% of harmful bacteria and other impurities through a natural treatment process without the need for chlorination or UV.  It consistently produces odor free and guaranteed treatment results to a much higher standard than many of the other treatment systems on the market today. This includes natural nitrification of the wastewater reducing the ammonia levels to less than 5mg/l. In short, Puraflo is a state of the art green building solution that lowers the installation, energy, and maintenance costs for installers and homeowners.  With increasing environmental protection standards, concerns on the robustness of on-site systems and the desire to save energy, Puraflo is just what the industry needs.

The most common Puraflo system applications include individual residential sites, community cluster systems, light commercial, schools, and subdivision developments. The system is particularly suited for intermittent flow applications such as vacation homes, churches, parks, and campgrounds as it retains the beneficial bacteria in the media. In addition the modular design allows phasing of the construction and very cost effective solutions for one & two bedroom cottages. The Puraflo treatment system is also an excellent solution for repairs and upgrades.
