YWCA Dayton Holds Luncheon and Program on Networking and Volunteerism

Get tips on how networking and volunteerism could land you your next job.

Aug. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The YWCA Dayton, in partnership with Sinclair Community College’s Workforce Development & Corporate Services, will continue its Professional Enrichment Series (PES) in September with a luncheon program entitled: Networking and Volunteerism: That Committee May Lead to Your Next Job.

You’ve heard that it’s not always what you know, but who you know; and that most of the great jobs are never in the classifieds, but shared person to person.  Networking has always been important, but is especially useful in navigating today’s challenging job market.

Two well-known Dayton area professionals will share the ins and outs of effective networking at this luncheon. Cathy Ponitz, Executive Director of CareSource Foundation and Community Relations and Toni Perry Gillispie, Director of External Affairs for AT&T Ohio will discuss networking from two different perspectives.

Ms. Perry Gillispie will address the actual logistics of proper networking from her book, “I’m Here, Now What?  A Woman’s Guide in Corporate America.”  This will include listening skills, where to place a nametag, the right kind of handshake, the role of business cards, and how to engage others in conversation.

Ms. Ponitz will share tips on navigating our community’s volunteer opportunities to build your resume and make connections that may assist you in a job search.  She may pull in a few surprise guests to share their networking successes, as well.

The Professional Enrichment Series will address these networking and volunteer opportunities during lunch on September 15, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the Charity Early Auditorium in the Ponitz Center (Building 12) at Sinclair Community College.  Tickets are $30 per person ($10 tax-deductible).

Proceeds from PES support the YWCA Dayton’s mission, programs and services, including: racial justice, domestic violence counseling and shelter; homelessness; affordable housing; childcare, teen services; self-sufficiency and personal development for women.
