One of the most important efforts of today’s fishing industry is to influence and educate our children to have a sincere appreciation for our fisheries. In turn, this will contribute to the future of our sport as we eventually leave it in their hands.
Kype Fishing Magazine, a quarterly production on steelhead, salmon and trout fishing, has started a program that offers a second chance to teens who have made some poor choices in their lives. “Fishing saves lives” said George Douglas, Publisher of Kype. “Most kids start on drugs because they’re bored, hanging around the wrong people in dark places. These kids need to be exposed to “God’s Country” and the signs of life that only fishing provides—the sound of the river, the smell of the forest, and the rush of a leaping trout. They’ll know soon enough that the TUG is the drug, not these addictive substances that ruin lives.”
TheTugistheDrug.org is a social community for steelhead, salmon and trout fishermen around the world. There is a section of the website where anglers from around the world can donate their used fishing gear to the cause. This gear will be given to kids (who are interested in fishing) coming out of rehabilitation and will be encouraged to stay clean and to make the great outdoors part of their lives.
Visit the TugistheDrug.org and help Kype Magazine contribute to the future of fishing and to offer a great second chance to struggling teens.
