•   G.E.A.R . is a expedition of passion in the great outdoors. It is the brainchild of a couple whom have endured  physical and mental  adversity through adventure sports  but have used those experiences towards a positive goal. They find delight in travel and the people and places they encounter.  The project is based out of an ENVIRONMENTAl  expedition vehicle built to explore the planet with unequalled navigation potential in all types of terrain with the most innovative and self-sustainable products.

G.E.A.R want to display to the world in an exciting and innovative way the beauty of our planet through travel, the related adventure sports of the areas visited, and the people we encounter along the way. This will be done in a compatible way with the environment using green and self sustainable products – off the grid whenever possible. We also want to display and test all the innovative products we will be using whether it is for transport, communications, weather prediction, self sustainability, or sport.
•         Who are potential players we can call on for name recognition & support?
o        Sports heros (laird Hamilton, Leonardo dicaprio, etc…)
o        Board Members
         This gives immediate credibility -GEAR has a broad range of people that can be called on for support. The two main areas will come from celebrities who are either environmentalists or athletes.

Cameron Diaz: Trippin', MTV Series: "Cameron Diaz and a group of her close, personal friends think globally and act globally too as they travel to unlikely getaways...from Chile to Yellowstone, on a quest to safeguard the environment."

Leonardo Dicaprio: started the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 to promote environmental issues, drives a hybrid car, currently writing and producing a feature length documentary on global warming called "11th Hour".

Harrison Ford: vice chairman of Conservation International, has a Central American ant named after him, won the Global Environmental Citizen Award in 2002.

Jane Goodall: The Jane Goodall Institute: Purpose to advance the power of individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment of all living things


Woody Harrelson: "transforming the world together." This is a guy that is inspiring, focuses on biodiesel, getting off the grid, organic & overall good green-ness.

Edward Norton: launched the BP Solar Neighbors Program in 2003 which matches each celebrity purchase of a solar energy home system with a solar installation in a low-income family home in Los Angeles.

Brad Pitt: co-creator of design competition to build 20 affordable, reduced energy, environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans.

Robert Redford: 30 years on board of Natural Resources Defense Council, founder of Sundance Preserve, winner of 1993 Earth Day award, 1987 United Nations Global 500 award. In April 2007, launches weekly three-hour slot called "The Green", dedicated entirely to the environment, on his Sundance TV channel.

Sting: founder in 1989 of Rainforest Foundation to protect rain forests and their indigenous peoples.

Athletes will be focused in on the X type of athlete who practice their sport in the great outdoors and who depend on certain geography, weather, or natural medium to enjoy their sport. We would like to get one from each discipline ie
Skiing- Chris Davenport - World extreme skier and past champion
Snowboard- Shaun White- multi medal x athlete
Climbing-Chris Sharma- world class climber
Surfing- Laird Hamilton- all around ocean athlete
                                   Kelley Slater- world renown surf champion
Windsurfing- Robby Nash- innovator and sport promoter
Kitesurfing- Robby Nash,
Broneah brothers- Matt and Keagan Meyers- kitesurfing pros out of northern Michigan, Puerto Rico, and Patagonia
Motocross- Travis Pastrana- multi medal x game athlete
Mountain Bike- Brian Lopes 4x world champion

The project shall be run as a documentary through one main producer although side programs of the specific interests are possible. Although there will be footage of reality per say, we don’t want it to be based on that.
Possibilities for a show include national geographic explorer, travel channel, ESPN, amongst others
•         How are we funding? Funding will come through the program(s) that we choose and the products we endorse.  As well as private funding from Celebrity, and corp.
o        Budget? The initial budget including the vehicle building, event promotion, coordination etc should start at 1.5 million. The trip itself needs to be budgeted, but approximately $500k/yr.
o        Revenue streams? Up front is best but infusions as the project progresses can work.
o        Sponsors, sell the show, 501c3 (non-profit), other?  Sponsors will include many of the products and services needed to make the project a reality from all the equipment needed to build the vehicle to the equipment for the sport activities as well as the specialized green products. The business will be set up as a LLC. We would like to donate 10% of the proceeds to environmental organizations
•         We would like to start by early 2010 with the vehicle build and start a US promotional trip by the spring 2011. The 5 continent Trip should start in Alaska spring 2012.
        Unique Challenges? Logistics in many country border crossings, language barriers, vehicle support as far as maintenance, engineering, repairs, and coordination of our schedule in a manner that coincides with the seasons of the year, weather, and other events.
•         Our qualifications to make this a success? We are both retired professional athletes that have a passion for all the areas of interest involved. Garret is well knowne and acomplished  multi sport athlete who bases his daily decisions on the weather, logistics, and sport for a particular place. He has driven and travelled to many corners of the earth. Dez is also one of the top  athlete and world traveler, but in addition is a avid environmentalist, promoter, and humanitarian. As a team they have owned a variety of adventure businesses and complement each other as a well rounded team.
•         Our market? People that love the outdoors from a standpoint of adventure sport, weather, and travel while preserving the resources that make it possible.
•         Competition
•   This will be in viewers, followers, bloggers, twitterers, buyers, etc…
The project is unique in that it is both about the enjoyment and protection of the world, as well as a husband and wife team that complement as well as balance each other. The show will be a balancing act of views and compromises.
Competition will come from people with interests in all of the areas we cover, but we hope to have  an niche in combining these interests into one show.
•         Products for promotion (other peoples?) Almost every product we use will be potentially endorsed from the mechanical side of the vehicle, to fuels, energy(solar, wind, water generated), communications, sporting equipment, foods etc.
•         Our potential products we can market? We can brand ourselves and the idea
•         Short term processes / Long term processes? The immediate concern is to promote the idea and get people on board so that we can start building the vehicle. We can then equip the vehicle with all the gear needed and start a promo trip in the US and organize specific events and programs to cover the 5 continent goal.
•         Promotion / pr, etc? We plan on making many stops along our route to expose the vehicle and products. This will be done at different events like earth day, green day, sporting events, trade shows etc. We will need a marketing plan geared towards all the thoughts above as well as organize a PR department to help realize the goal.
