Wilson, NC - August 28 2005 - Recent data and statistics continue to suggest that black youth are lagging behind educationally, physically, financially and in most other areas of society. Negative media images do very little to dispute those findings. However, we have started a positive youth movement called B.E.F.Y an acronym for black, educated, focused and young, which is designed to be a "counter" to the negativity and drug/gang culture that plague the black community. Our slogan, "It's Your Life, Get B.E.F.Y. With It, " gives new meaning to the old phrase, "Where's the beef? " A B.E.F.Y. individual is one full of substance and devoid of a complacent, self-destructive mentality. Telling children to "say no to drugs and gangs" is just not enough. Choices and alternatives need to be made available. B.E.F.Y. targets youth from preschool to college, providing workshops, seminars and conferences to inform, network, create unity and strengthen the movement. International radio personality Tom Joyner of the Tom Joyner Morning Show recently stated, “I love the slogan!” in response to the “It’s Your Life, Get B.E.F.Y. With It!” slogan.Afterthoughts With S. Denice Newton, a talk radio show on Blog Talk Radio, will be featuring B.E.F.Y. guests throughout the months of August and September.
