Leading Deed Poll providers, the Legal Deed Service who changed two of the Big Brother contestant’s names to Dogface and Halfwit, are helping the channel four show yet again in a bid to give the duo their identities back!
The firm, based in London and Market Drayton, has been asked again by programme to assist them in the helping Big Brother change the names of contestants Sophie Reader and Freddie Fisher back to their original names amidst fears that their new names could have a huge impact on their lives outside the confines of the show.
Jamie Jackson, from The Legal Deed Service, said, “We are all chuffed that Big Brother asked us to help them in another name change secret mission, and this revelation just goes to show that the producers do have a conscience!”
The need for the new names emerged after the possible negative impact became clear. A few years ago, a New Zealand judge slammed the parents of a young girl who named her 'Tahula does the hula from Hawaii'. The girl was so socially debilitated by her name, that it was left to the courts to change it for her. The judge concluded that in accordance with the Children Act 1989 that it was not in the best interests of the child, and renamed her.
The Legal Deed Service was approached by program makers following a series of high profile name changes this year.
Jamie Jackson added, “The case of 'Tahula does the hula from Hawaii', was an important one as it highlighted the effects that changing a name by Deed Poll without consent can have on someone. We have loved every minute of our involvement with the Big Brother name changes, and it fantastic that they were so Impressed with the first name change that we conducted, that they contacted us again.”
