Travelers overseas might find themselves in a familiar vehicle as the 2010 Honda Insight catches on internationally.
Its reputation as the lowest-priced gas-electric hybrid on the
market has put the spotlight on the Insight internationally. It was
ranked as the top-selling vehicle in Japan last April – the first time
any hybrid clinched that spot – with more than 10,000 sold that month.
In Miami, it is also a very popular choice, especially as gas prices
climb and interest in “green motoring” grows due to government
incentives and stimulus funds.
Many hybrid vehicles have bigger price tags because of the expensive
“green technology” that makes them efficient. But the Honda Motor Co.
wanted to make the Insight an affordable hybrid – and with a starting
price of under $20,000, they have succeeded.
Even the competition has noticed. Honda recently introduced a
revamped version of the Prius, the best-selling hybrid in the world,
with aggressive pricing– though it still will have a higher price tag.
Toyota executives have been clear about the fact that they realize the
Honda Insight is competition.
