The 19th Annual San Diego Music Awards are on right on track to present us with another
great showdown of area talent. This year’s competition is held at Viejas Concerts
in the Park, 5005 Willows Rd #213, Alpine, CA. Doors open at 6:00 pm on
Thursday, September 10th, 2009. (All ages; tickets $25 - $75). Surrounded by mountains,
this beautiful 1500-seat outdoor venue offers pristine acoustics under a star-lit sky.
Carlsbad’s Steven Ybarra is among the nominees in the “Best Acoustic” category.
He’s no stranger to recognition, large venues and award nominations. He has performed
at House of Blues, Coors Amphitheatre, been heard on national radio, and been seen on
national TV. He’s even won several San Diego Music Awards already. But this year’s
nomination is different, special – it’s Steven’s first SDMA nomination as a solo artist.
After a serious illness put the skids on his skyrocketing career as lead singer
of his former band, destiny stepped in. Forced to leave the band, he found a new, deeper
version of himself during his recuperation and down time. Inspired by hope, faith, and
gratitude, Steven began to write and create thought-provoking, heartfelt new songs.
Through the darkness emerged a shining new solo artist, who quickly catapulted back
into his successful career as a full-time performer. He’s already nabbed a Platinum Prize
award from the San Diego Songwriter’s Guild for his cross-genre Christian pop/adult
contemporary songs. His newest CD release, Love Love Love, is chock full of great songs
with heartfelt, meaningful lyrics, superb vocals, and creative arrangements. Throw his
charismatic persona into the mix, and Steven captivates the audience from the first note.
