The first time that I heard about an atomic wall clock, I thought it was some sort of clock that worked during some sort of atomic blast. I know that is pretty ignorant, but it is what I thought. Well, if you haven't figured it out, I was wrong. An atomic clock is the most accurate type of clock that you can get.
The way normal clocks work (especially watches) is that they use a crystal. I'm not going to go into the physics of how the crystal works, but it helps keep the seconds correct. Obviously it isn't perfect, but close enough.
When it comes to an atomic wall clock it uses an atomic resonance standard of frequency and it is able to keep the time perfectly. Typically radio stations, television stations and investors use this type of clock because they need everything to be perfect. When you put a show on television, you need it to come on exactly the right time. Being off by simply 30 seconds is enough for you to lose a commercial.
If you're someone that likes to see consistent times with their clocks than this is it. They will give the time perfectly and you don't have to worry about them getting slower or faster.
