How Do You Get Scabies? is probably the first question you ask yourself when you realise yourself or someone close to you has it. It is often thought that scabies can only occur if you are dirty or unclean. This is not the case.

Scabies is very common. This does not stop a Mother from that embarrassed feeling when she discovers her son or daughter is infected with scabies. Yes you guessed, I am speaking from experience. So back to the original question, how do you get Scabies?

It is highly contagious and can be passed from person to person very easily. A simple handshake is enough for the scabies mite to pass over. They can not jump or fly so they can only be passed on by a person touching the infected person or persons clothes, or things that the scabies might rest on. The good thing is that they don't live long once they leave the human body. They can be passed on by sharing towels with the person infected or clothes. They like anything they can cling onto, carpets, rugs, lounges, cuddly toys, mattresses.

So How do you get Scabies? From being in close contact with someone else who already has scabies. It is important to tackle the scabies quickly. They spread like wild fire. It is also important not to just treat the infected person but anyone who he / she been in contact with. Treat (steam clean if possible) carpets, mattresses, rugs. Clean clothes, cuddly toys anything that can be washed. For anything that cant be washed put it in a bin bag and seal tightly and leave alone for 2 weeks (this will ensure that the scabies mites will have died). They are tiny creatures and can not be seen without the aid of a microscope.  To see a clip on the scabie mites visit my squidoo lens, http://www.squidoo.com/HomeRemediesForScabies  .  This will show you how tiny they really are.

The next question you will be asking yourself is What do I use for Getting Rid of Scabies ? Your doctor can prescribe you a cream that you will need to leave on for at least 8 hours. Now, get this, there are ingredients in 'the cream' that have been linked to cancer. The good news is, there are natural remedies for scabies available, the one I use can be found on my Squidoo lens along with information on how do you get scabies, home remedies for scabies and lots more scabies information, http://www.squidoo.com/HomeRemediesForScabies. Natural is best. I know it is a sad state of affairs that we now have to look at going down this road but unfortunately the manufacturers of 'the cream' (as is the way with most medication) are thinking of profit first.
