Aug. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- After a period of time that you have worked to grow your own organic vegetables those organic vegetables and other materials in your garden will be able to be harvested. Here are some processes to use for getting your organic food to be harvested.

The most important part of harvesting deals with the colors of the organic food you are harvesting. When the foods get to their regular colors they will be ripe.

Here is the process to work for harvesting tomatoes. You will need to watch for the color of the tomatoes that are being grown. If you are growing red tomatoes you will need to wait for the tomatoes to develop bright red colors. At this point you can get your tomatoes harvested but in many cases when you wait longer for the tomatoes to be harvested you can get tomatoes that are sweeter.

For beans you should look at the health of the pods. The tips of the pods should be well built and a rich green color should be featured on all of them.

Cucumbers should be picked as often as possible when you have good sized cucumbers that are large enough to prepare and eat. This is because of how on a typical organic cucumber plant one large cucumber can take away from the nutrients of the other cucumbers growing on that plant. Another plant that works like this is eggplant.

For root crops like potatoes or carrots you will need to get these harvested after a period of time. It helps to look for the growths that are coming out of the ground. You will need to look into removing these from the garden bed when the growths appear to be large and healthy. Don’t forget after getting the root crops removed to clear out the areas that the crops were dug out of so that you will have fresh soil ready for crops to be planted in. While you should look to get your kids to help you with getting your organic food harvested you look to monitor what they are doing so that you know that they are getting the right foods. Don’t forget to help them with removing any plants that are no longer capable of growing. For more details visit http://www.mumsgrowyourownorganicvegetables.com.
