Fieldbus Conference 2009 includes EtherCAT Seminar

PR Log (Press Release) – Aug 21, 2009 – esd electronics, Inc announces their 2nd annual Fieldbus Conference on October 8, 2009 at the beautiful Warren Center near Boston!

This year’s conference revolves around industrial networking technologies; with the focus on EtherCAT, an extremely fast and reliable fieldbus system based on Ethernet. EtherCAT, as well as other Ethernet-based systems, are challenging established technologies such as, CANopen, DeviceNet, and others.

Industrial Ethernet technologies are a formidable challenge to CAN and CANopen as the low-cost industrial networking technology of choice. These technologies will eventually replace the majority of CANopen applications, at least in regards to new developments, and this fact presents challenges to the industry.

One challenge that the industry, including esd electronics, Inc. and its customers, is facing is the smooth transition from established CAN/CANopen applications into Ethernet. Another challenge is in making the decision between the more than twenty different Ethernet networking technologies. We at esd electronics have made the decision to focus on EtherCAT primarily due to its performance and flexibility.

The presentations during the "Fieldbus Conference" will elaborate on the future of CAN and CANopen in the North American market, the need for newer fieldbus technologies, followed by a seminar on EtherCAT basics. To round out the day, there will be a presentation on the practical aspects of Ethernet installations and the real-life lessons learned through 10 years of utilizing industrial Ethernet for controller-to-controller communications, control of I/O and variable speed drives, motion control, and communicating with an enterprise network.

The presenters are Wilfried Voss, President of esd electronics, Inc USA, and author of A Comprehensible Guide to Controller Area Network; Joey Stubbs, PE, PMP, North American Representative for the EtherCAT Technology Group; and James Ingraham, Software Development Team Leader for Sage Automation, Inc.
