PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 21, 2009 -
Perhaps their own success in using the experience they have gained as extreme athletes to get ahead in business is what inspired motivational speaker Jim McCormick and author Maryann Karinch to create their new book, “BUSINESS LESSONS FROM THE EDGE: Learn How Extreme Athletes Use Intelligent Risk Taking to Succeed in Business” (McGraw-Hill; August 2009).  McCormick and Karinch have compiled the action-packed stories, revealing interviews and success-assuring business techniques of numerous athlete-executives, ultimately providing action-ready guidance not only for success in business, but for success in life.

Mountaineer Kevin Sheridan, Founder and CEO of Chicago-based HR Solutions, Inc. stands as one of the athlete-executives offering tips for business success in the book.  Among other offerings, Sheridan shares his experience as an entrepreneur, along with HR Solutions’ research on Employee Engagement, Building a Magnetic Culture® in the workplace, and Best Practices for hiring.  Sheridan’s experience as an extreme athlete illuminates the research shared at unique angles.  For example, when discussing interview techniques, he mentions the importance of recognizing when compatibility between management and the candidate is off: “You’re climbing a K2, and he’s [the candidate’s] going for a walk in the park,” Sheridan explains.

From freestyle motocross stars to famous surfers and race-car drivers, “BUSINESS LESSONS FROM THE EDGE: Learn How Extreme Athletes Use Intelligent Risk Taking to Succeed in Business” shares knowledge of several other well-known, successful athlete-executives, all of whom have turned lessons gained from extreme athletic competitions into dynamic business applications.
