Now in its seventh year, the Bethpage Federal Credit Union (Bethpage) Foundation Scholarship Program each year awards 10 Long Island high school graduates with scholarships totaling $1,000 each based on college acceptance, essay submission, academic merit, and recommendations. This year, Bethpage also matched two $500 scholarship awards presented to Long Island students by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
“Bethpage considers the Scholarship program to be essential to Long Island families facing the higher costs of education during these times of economic uncertainty,”
The 2009 Bethpage Scholarship Committee selected the following graduating seniors based upon acceptance to an accredited College or University as a full time student and additional eligibility requirements, including, among others, academic average, a completed application including high school transcript, a letter explaining what the student expects to achieve in college, a letter of recommendation, and record of community involvement:
Kristen Bauer, C. Mepham H.S. – attending Pratt Institute
Stephanie Carrera, Riverhead H.S. – attending St. Joseph’s College
Stephanie Chang, Huntington H.S.-- attending Rutgers University.
Danielle Hastings, Island Trees H.S. – attending New York College in Cortland
Ian Hoffman of Lake Grove, NY -- attending Yale University
Sarah Lohneiss, Riverhead H.S. – attending Loyola University
Heather Myers, Hicksville H.S. – attending University of New York College in Delhi
Ashley Oracewski, Bay Shore H.S. – attending Long Island University, CW Post
Ashley Schreck, Longwood H.S.-- attending St. Joseph's College
Preya Shah, Ward Melville H.S. – attending Harvard University
Krystal Sheehan, Mount Sinai H.S. – attending University of New Haven
