Indian Statistical Service : How to go for it

Aspirants who want to serve the country's government through his statistical skills appear for the Indian Statistical Services Exam that is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year in the month of November.

The UPSC conducts the Indian Statistical Services Exam to recruit Grade IV officers for the ISS. The Indian Statistical Service is referred to as a central government service in which economic planning and analysis are conducted through through state boards, planning commission and other government owned bodies in the country.

The government offers various career options (http://education.latestt.com/careeroptioncourse.aspx) through which an individual can make his career in Indian Statistical Services, which also offer a variety of prospects for those graduates aspiring for a career in Statistics. All selected candidates are placed in the National sample survey, ministry of economic affairs, planning board, planning commission and other allied offices where specialists in statistics are required.
Eligibility
Age
A candidate who is going to appear in ISS (http://education.latestt.com/questionpapers/qpdetails.asp...) should be between the age group of 21 and 28 years old. The date of birth is counted as per the 1st of January of the year of examination.
If the candidate falls under the category of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, he can get a relaxation in this criteria.
Educational Qualifications
A degree with Statistics or Mathematics or Economics as a subject from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India is required if a candidate is going to appear for the exam of Indian Statistical Services (http://education.latestt.com/questionpapers/qpdetails.aspx?CatId=28&CatName=Indian-Statistical-Service).
Scheme Of The Examination
The examination comprises:
1. Written Examination
2. Viva- Vocal test of such candidates, carrying a maximum of 250 marks.
Written Examination
The subjects of written examination will be as under: General English, General Studies, Statistics- I, Statistics- II and Statistics- III.
1. Each Paper is of 3 hours duration
2.. All question papers will be of conventional (essay) type
Standard of Papers
The standard of papers in General English and General Studies will be that of a graduate of an Indian University. The standard of papers of other subjects will be that of the Masters degree examination.
