The annual Shodun Festival is now being held in Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. The festival will last 7 days (Aug.20-26) and is held with prayers, Tibetan operas, arrow shooting, tug-of-war, dancing, singing, drinking, picnics, horse race (in Damxung County),yak race, bonfires at night(under the trees at Norbulingka)
Shodun Festival, also known as the Shoton Festival, literally, the "Yoghurt Festival”, is considered as the important carnival of the Tibetan. It dates from 11th century A.D. and is usually held in the 6th Month or the 7th Month of the Tibetan Calendar. The festival is regarded as the window to know the Tibetan culture and customs. This time of year, many travels come and enjoy the festival with the local people. The next Shodun Festival will be held in Aug.10-16 of 2010.
