With larger businesses ever expanding to the outskirts of Canton, the historic downtown district is redefining itself as a quaint community arts haven.
On Saturday, August 22 at 6 pm, The Worship Studio, 121 Brown Street, Canton, GA, a new hub for local and national artists of every medium will be hosting it’s grand opening entitled, “The Reveal.” The event is free and open to the public, with a rich variety of artists and their art work on display, live music, and notable local figures celebrating the opening.
Housed in a charming white house converted to an art gallery just at the end of Main Street in Historic Downtown Canton, The Worship Studio is a unique art gallery, a community of artisans and a training center for all types of expressive worship through art.
It is a convergence of Patricia Reeve’s previous Downtown Mission Gallery and The Worship Studio’s Director Matt Tommey’s desire to reach a larger audience with more diversified activities.
It boasts juried art, and offers both short term and long term classes and internships for all mediums- from painting, vocal and instrumental lessons, pottery, dance, drama, collage, sculpture, metal and photographic arts, fiber art, basket weaving, the literary arts and more.
Skilled master artisans, both national and local, are on the docket to mentor and teach chosen candidates through unique instruction and internships.
Central to The Worship Studio’s main goals is to invigorate the historic area, and work in coordination with the community’s music and performance events, and undergirding existing downtown activities such as holiday programs, gazebo concerts, and the Farmer’s Market. In addition, TWS will add unique products for sale to the public as well as bringing new municipal arts performances of various kinds.
TWS aspires to bring much needed traffic to the historic district to enhance the economy. Canton Mainstreet Director Ginger Garrard calls TWS “a new breath of life and stimulation for our great historic downtown” and urges everyone to visit or participate. The non-profit division of TWS welcomes donations of every kind.
Upcoming events at TWS include a full schedule of Fall Classes in various art forms, details available on the website, and Expressions At the Worship Studio, held every fourth Saturday of the month. Expressions will be held at the Cherokee Arts Center in Downtown Historic Canton, on Saturday, August 29 from 6-9 pm. The Center will resound with the sounds of live praise and worship music and artists of all types are invited to bring their tools and create onsite. There is no cost for the event, although donations will be accepted.
