Incorporated in 1883, Dunbar was named for Col. Thomas Dunbar who came to the area in 1755 to take back Fort Duquesne.
From the early settlers to the French and Indian War, through the boom years of Dunbar’s industrial revolution to the decline of its industrial base, Dunbar has been witness to over two hundred years of history.
In a new book by Arcadia Publishing, the Dunbar Historical Society uses vintage photographs to take readers on a nostalgic journey down memory lane through years of memories.
Highlights of Dunbar:
• Features never before seen historic photographs from both public and private collections
• Charts Dunbar’s industrial growth, marked by the start of the Union Furnace
• Shares the town tragedies such as the Hill Farm Mine disaster, fires, floods and other mine explosions
• Captures the area’s pastimes, weddings, historic buildings and the people who made Dunbar what it is today
The profits from the sale of this book will benefit the preservation efforts of the Dunbar Historical Society.
