Running Towards A Dream – Blind Athlete Runs Over 700 Miles – And She’s Not Finished Yet!

Guide Dogs for the Blind are the real winners of Rhonda Copeland’s mammoth goal to run 1,222 miles from her home in Missoula, Montana to Burbank, California, to the home of The Ellen DeGeneres show. Completing a Virtual Run to Ellen’s (www.RunOverToEllens.com) she runs over 36 miles each week around her home town in Missoula and has already logged over 788 miles! Along the way she is raising much needed funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind  - aiming to raise $30,000.  

Why a virtual run? Doing an actual run on the roads and highways from Montana to California is not feasible for her as a blind runner right now, for both logistic and safety reasons. Why is she running to Ellen’s? “I want to be on Ellen. I want to share my story and be an inspiration”. When talking about her website www.RunOvertToEllens.com Rhonda states, “I’ve created a website hoping to inspire myself and other people to break through whatever barriers are in the way”.  

Breaking  through barriers is exactly what she is doing. If aiming to run 1,222 miles wasn’t enough, she recently competed in the Missoula Half Marathon along the way – using her white cane to guide her.  

With her goal of raising $30,000 Rhonda, also known to her blogging fans as Vision Runner, some may say it’s an unattainable goal – Rhonda disagrees. “We only need 30,000 people to donate $1 and we have reached our goal”.
