By: Baterbys Art Auction Gallery A signature piece of Keeley's, "97' Newsstand" is one of the many notable artworks that will be featured in Baterbys' American Masters Exhibit from October 2 to 10. The piece embodies the encompassing integrity of American Art. It does not simply translate a stack of candy bars, magazine covers, newspaper headliners and tabloid gossip into a cohesive message of the times, but it also weaves together multiple stories that have defined the people of America in that specific time period. Another American Master Painter whose works will be featured in the upcoming exhibit is Andrew Wyeth who recently passed away early this year at age 91. Heralded for his dismal and somber interpretations of rural, middle-class life and values, his artworks were the perfect juxtaposition to pop-art - the then budding art movement. One art historian, in response to a 1977 survey in Art News magazine about the most underrated and overrated artists of the century, nominated Wyeth for both categories. On the opposite side of the art spectrum is Peter Max, the pop-art laureate painter whose works resonate deeply with people who have a strong connection - whether in retrospective view or by plain interest - with the heydays of the 1960's. His colorful, psychedelic and visually stimulating art has been noted all over the world, including an 8-page article in LIFE magazine in 1968. His works will also be featured in Baterbys American Masters Exhibit. American Masters Exhibit is about the diversity of these artists' voices and styles as much as the unification of their thoughts and hearts. It's a collection of multiple stories about one powerful country's fight for its progress in all aspects while trying to prolong the stability of its principles, values and perspectives. Artists like Thomas Kinkade, Jane Wooster-Scott, Leroy Neiman and William Nelson will also be featured in the exhibit. All of the artworks that will be on display are available for sale at affordable prices. Opening and reception night will be on October 2 at Baterbys Art Auction Gallery. The event will start at 6pm. Guests will be treated to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres by Cuba Libre and a short talk about American Art by one of Baterbys' Art Experts. There is no registration or entrance fee. People who want to attend will simply need to fill out an RSVP form at www.baterbys.com. # # # With over 25 years of experience in the art world and auctioneering, we sell classic and contemporary art and offer art services such as art appraisals, art consignments, corporate art leasing and provide auctioneering services to charity groups and non-profit organizations.
