metraTec GmbH, Germany, today announced the launch of its QuasarMF RFID reader which reads and writes Mifare tags and which stands out significantly when compared to existing Mifare readers on the market today. Integrated into an aluminum housing it is equipped with optically isolated 24VDC inputs and outputs and an optional Ethernet interface, making it well suited for industrial applications. Another unusual feature is its external antenna connector. This allows connecting arbitrary antennas of different sizes and shapes and even multiplexers to the QuasarMF which opens up new fields of application for Mifare tags.
„Of course we are aware of the fact that 95% of all existing Mifare applications are using integrated reader / antenna modules in applications such as access and payment systems and automatic time recording.“ admits Klaas Dannen, Product Manager at metraTec. „However, there are customers that need a Mifare solution in situations that need external antennas or Ethernet connectivity. The QuasarMF was developed for exactly these sophisticated 5% of all Mifare users.“ The new Mifare reader is available starting today directly from metraTec and its distribution partners.
In parallel to the new product launch, metraTec has announced today that all its Mifare readers now support the new Mifare Plus Protocol which offers enhanced data security features to the user due to integrated cryptography algorithms. Previuosly shipped metraTec Mifare readers can be updated to support the new protocol via firmware update available from metraTec free of charge.
