The latest edition BitDefender Total Security 2010 sets new standards of protection, usability and performance. New features include the introduction of user profiles, Active Virus Control and improved scanning techniques to deliver faster performance. Other system enhancements will ensure BitDefender continues to deliver world class proactive protection against all Internet security threats, along with improved system maintenance and backup, without compromising PC performance.
Optimised scanning allows on-demand scans to be completed in half the time needed by previous versions of the BitDefender software. This is achieved by skipping files known to be safe, thereby improving the scan speed and reducing the system workload. BitDefender provides a database of files known to be safe, and updates this database on a continual basis.
The introduction of Active Virus Control provides an additional security countermeasure – by keeping watch while the user’s computer is in operation. This innovative technology monitors programs as they execute and then looks for unusual potential malware-like actions. If enough such actions are detected, the program which ran them will be declared harmful.
Breaking new ground for Internet security providers, User Profiles allows the control panel to be set up according to the needs of different primary activities. Users can select either – Typical, Parent, or Gamer. In each case the product interface is presented so that each category’s preferred tasks are easily accessible (e.g. for parents the “Configure Parental Control” button, while for Gamers, the “Turn on Game Mode” button).
Other BitDefender Total Security 2010 enhancements include:
• Enhanced Usability: In addition to the existing Basic and Advanced views, the BitDefender 2010 dashboard now features a new “Simple View” to better accommodate users with different levels of PC knowledge.
• Intrusion Detection: BitDefender detects and blocks attempts to change critical system files or registry entries and warns about attacks performed by code injection (DLL injection).
• Increased Parental Control: The Parental Control module features a newly added reporting system allowing parents to view which websites their children visit. Parents’ monitoring activity is made more efficient, as they can receive e-mail alerts concerning each child’s activity on the Internet.
• Application Time Control: This feature provides parents with the ability to set specific time intervals for which their children are allowed to use certain applications.
• Increased In-Product Technical Support: Users can get answers to the most common product questions or contact technical support directly from the product using its easy-to-use self-service module.
