An online teaching and learning resource designed specifically for the needs of primary teachers and children is now available for use in schools and homes. The programme was introduced in the first, myTuition center in Bukit Angkasa by the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister.
The centre, which was opened today at Taman Bukit Angkasa, Kerinchi, here, aims at providing free learning services to students in Lembah Pantai.
Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, said the centre was capable of motivating students to study by utilising advancements in information communication technologies.
"I hope that this smart partnership among government agencies and non-governmental organisations can be further enhanced by setting up more My Tuition centres to support the government's vision of creating a large pool of quality human capital," he said when opening the centre today.
The centre is now implementing a pilot project at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Pantai, Kampung Kerinchi, providing the school with an ICT room with 50 multimedia computers as well as an air-conditioned resource centre.
The @school online program provides literally hundreds of high quality educational material, both subject matters and special interest subjects that will help mould creative minds.
“It is a very useful complementary internet-based learning tool for teachers, parents and pupils who are currently starved of reliable resources,” said Mr. Santhira Velu, CEO of Xpert Technologies Sdn Bhd.
Mr. Santhira Velu said Xpert Technologies Sdn Bhd is spearheading the introduction of the program in Malaysia and Asia, said.
He said that it also caters for nursery schools, special needs children and English as a second subject.
Apart from covering all the main subjects of the school curriculum, it also provides exposure to games, PE, ICT, music, art and has a whole segment on fun times.
@school is fun, exciting, immediately available, easy to use and an affordable subscription-based service for school resource centre and home use, he added.@school also has parachute games which are now very popular and a superb teaching aid.
Play chutes will enable every class to help children cooperate as a team and learn personal, social and emotional and health lessons all at once, said Mr. Santhira Velu.
Xpert Technologies is also currently giving out free parachutes to school that subscribe to the service. The games are available online for teachers to use.
He said that the program will also be useful for kindergartens, private schools, colleges and language centre.
Mr. Santhira Velu said that the subscription based service will help in building holistic and creative thinking youngsters with a strong command of the English language.
He said recent expressions by educationists, leading academics, editors and the public point out to the need to build strong foundations in English and the need to have rich resource material.
He hoped that the Ministry of Education and various authorities and bodies interested in promoting and providing support to schools would help sponsor @school thereby helping to provide rich content to all schools throughout the country without having to fork out huge sums of money.
School resource centres that already have computers and internet links will be able to plug on to the service immediately to have a vast online library for only RM83 a month and for home use it is only Rm17 a month.
Subscriptions are on an annual basis and the subscriptions have been kept low to encourage a wide user base throughout the country.
