Advanced Breast Care Imaging, a diagnostic imaging center dedicated to complete women’s breast health from screening to diagnosis to treatment, becomes the first health care provider in Pennsylvania to offer AccuBoost radiation treatment for breast cancer. As part of the opening of the Center’s Treatment and Wellness Center, Advanced Breast Care Imaging will offer this non-invasive, high dose rate radiation treatment.
“We believe AccuBoost will be a great benefit to our patients, and are proud to be the first health care facility of any kind in Pennsylvania to offer this technology,”
AccuBoost is the first technology to allow High Dose Rate (HDR) treatment of breast cancer in a non-invasive manner. Prior HDR treatment involved implanting multiple protruding catheters or inflatable balloon devices in the breast. With AccuBoost, the breast is immobilized and imaged in a manner similar to mammography, but without excessive pressure. It is designed to accurately target the radiation dose to “see what you treat and treat what you see,” stated Piran Sioshansi, Ph.D., President and CEO of Advanced Radiation therapy.
“AccuBoost is one of the several services being offered in our new Treatment and Wellness Center that opened in April of this year. We will continue to strive to provide the latest technologies in detecting and treating breast cancer which ultimately is a positive step toward accomplishing that goal.” stated Christine Downing, Director of Advanced Breast Care Imaging.
Advanced Breast Care Imaging will welcome all media representatives at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, for observation of patient treatment and interviews with the patient and Dr. Gittleman.
