The Brown for Atlanta campaign releases today Dr. Tiffany Brown’s position on the creation of a New Vision Night Club.
“I believe a nightclub between two new commercial developments is not good for urban planning nor is it good from a traffic perspective. I would like to discourage any development that encourages cruising and traffic gridlock on any major street in the City of Atlanta. I believe we must first get a better understanding of urban planning, create an image of what we want our city to look like and then work towards the completion of that vision.” Dr. Brown states.
Although Dr. Brown is against the creation of a New Visions Night Club, her goal is to develop an area that not only reflects Atlanta but also has a balance of arts with entertainment. She believes her proposed Atlantic Station Arts and Entertainment District concept will aid in this process by creating an area that clusters various arts and late night entertainment uses. She also believes the plan will enhance retail and mixed-use corridor on Atlantic Station, and with a slightly higher sales tax, generate revenue to help fund new initiatives.
In Dr. Brown’s proposed plan, Atlanta Nightclubs who are willing to relocate their club to this district will receive a tax incentive for their decision. Many of Atlantic Station restaurants are already being utilized as nightclubs on the weekends so to create a total nightclub district would not seem problematic.
Since the closing of the Buckhead Village District, the city of Atlanta has been without a party district and tourism has decreased significantly. Dr. Brown believes that the Buckhead Village District problem occurred due to the lack of urban planning. The difficulties controlling traffic in the area were a consequence of the district being placed between two major city roads. The proposed plan will be in an area that will provide easy traffic control of the surrounding streets.
Dr Brown believes an entertainment district will not only solve the situation at hand but prove to be an excellent way for citizens to reinvest in Atlanta.
