Formed in late 2008 and hitting live stages by 2009, Darlings of Chelsea was formed by five friends and purveyors of the Canadian punk rock scene: Jay Millette of the Black Halos, Robby Ruckus of Robin Black and Scratching Post, Chris Nova of Kill Cheerleader and CJ Sleez, Paul Thompson of The Parkas and Sean Robertson of The Voxx (UK). The Mimico Sessions, released on the independent label North Ruckus, is making waves across Canada with rave reviews in popular music magazines, college radio stations, internet blogs and more.
UK’s Mass Movement Magazine named the album “Top Five Albums of the Year” and honoured the band with the title of “Best New Band of 2009”. CHUO FM Ottawa named The Mimico Sessions “Album of the Week” and Toronto’s 102.1 The Edge has already picked up the album for play on its Indie Hour segment. Popular Canadian publications ChartAttack and Exclaim Magazine have praised the bands song-writing abilities and described the band as "...subtle lovers, raw rock'n'rollers, sugary pop rock fiends and sordid, guttural demons... twisted yet beautifully entrancing... a stunning debut..."
