Aug. 15, 2009 - PRLog -- Football card collectors interested in this year's cards, a classic set and a few nods to American history should like the 2009 Philadelphia Gum football card set from Upper Deck. The company is blending old-time design with current-day players in its latest trading card product: 2009 Philadelphia Football.  Also included is a 25-card subset of America's newest President, Barack Obama.

Featuring the retrospective card design from the 1964 classic Philadelphia football card set, Upper Deck has worked in special themes and top-name players to give something old a fresh new face.

Said Brandon Miller, Upper Deck’s Football brand manager. “Retrospective sets are very popular nowadays and since there were so many newsworthy events happening in the 1960s, we were also able to include some very timely insert collections featuring the Vietnam War and Woodstock.”

"The Story of Barack Obama” follows the earlier depiction of “The Story of Robert F. Kennedy” as well as “The Vietnam War”  which is patterned after the original set’s “World War II” trading card essay. The 25-card Obama collection will be a challenge for collectors, since it is packed to an average of about three cards per box.  The popular website Obama Autographs (http://www.obamaautographs.com) has a section where collectors can shop for all Obama trading cards via eBay, making it easier to complete their "Story of Barack Obama" sets or buy other Obama trading cards that have been issued in recent months.

Beyond its classic appeal, Upper Deck’s 2009 Philadelphia Football set boasts one oversized (5”-by-7”) 1935 National Chicle R311 card featuring current NFL rookies and stars in every hobby box as well as one hard-signed autographed card, on average.

In addition to the Obama cards, other inserts include “Woodstock’s 40th Anniversary” (five cards), “The Election Years” (11) and “NFL Stars in Action” (49), the latter collection showing unobstructed, in-game action images of current NFL standouts. Each card’s white border also stays consistent with the set’s old-time look and feel.
