Dreamer.Me opened its site for searches for the first time earlier this week. The new website http://dreamer.me promises to make a big difference in the world of philanthropy with the world’s first non-profit search tool.
Money is raised for charity whenever a user clicks on certain Google search results or buys a product on Amazon as a result of a search on their website.
“The best part about it is that you don’t really have to do anything special to give money,” says founder Brian Pittman. “Just search, click, and buy like you normally would. Plus you don’t have to worry about getting low quality search results since they’re produced by either Google or Amazon.”
Users are allowed to choose which charity categories they would like their money to go to. The categories are currently The Environment, World Hunger, Education, Health and Human Rights, and Space Exploration.
Why include Space Exploration? Says Brian, “The exploration of space has always been a passion of mine. One of the reasons I even thought of this idea was because I was trying to think of ways to raise money and raise awareness for the construction of something known as a space elevator, so it’s a category I felt I had to include.”
Dreamer.Me hopes to tap into the world of internet marketing and sales in order to raise money for charitable causes around the world.
Brian explains how in the course of a day an average internet user can produce between $1 and $10 of revenue for search providers, not to mention any purchases that are made online. “Internet marketing and sales is a multi-billion dollar business; I would estimate more than $1 billion a day. Imagine if just 1% of that money went to charity. Imagine the possibilities for a site like this.”
