Pam and Gary Raymond built their home in Coggin’s Farm after the major was transferred from New York.
Special
This four-bedroom, three-bath ranch recently sold in the subdivision for $297,690.
Getting there
Take I-85 south to Exit 51 and turn left on Ga. 154. Turn at second left onto George Coggin Road. Travel 1 mile into Coggin's Farm.
Q. What were you looking for in a neighborhood?
A. Pricing. The schools. We have daughters still at home.
How did you find Coggin’s Farm?
We were looking at houses in Peachtree City and around the area. We could build for the same price they were trying to sell a house that was 5, 6, 7, 8 years old. So we decided to build and build what we wanted.
How did you research the builder?
We looked at a subdivision he built two years ago. We saw how it was laid out and what the neighborhood looks like now. We talked to a couple of the current owners.
How early did you get in on the process?
We looked at the different floor plans on the Web site. We narrowed it down to which one we wanted. We came over. They had poured the slab and framed it, and just Sheetrocked it. That was it. We kept looking around at some of the models. The one they started here on our lot was the one we wanted. We caught it just before they did anything to it. We picked out everything — paint, the carpets, countertops, everything we wanted internally.
What are some of your favorite features in the home?
One of the biggest things my wife loves is the washer and dryer are upstairs with the bedrooms. That helps not having to haul the clothes [downstairs]
Did you make any changes to the original plans?
We upgraded and had some columns put in the front. We made the patio in the back a little bit larger because we like to grill and do outside activities.
How often were you able to watch the construction?
I was still stationed in New York, but [we were] down here a couple of weeks. Every day, we were out there. We kept coming back and coming back. The guy building it thought we were stalking him.
