Tortola, BVI and Cape Town, South Africa - 31 July 2009
Caribbean Data Information Services Ltd. (CDIS), a British Virgin Islands limited company, has formalized a contract with Compuscan Direct, a division of Compuscan Holdings, a South African-based credit bureau operator and software developer. The contract brings CDIS access to proven, industry-leading credit bureau software developed specifically for implementation in developing markets.
CDIS focused its development efforts in the Jamaican market starting in 2007. With its execution of the agreement with Compuscan Direct, CDIS now has the final piece necessary to begin working with prospective bureau members and stakeholders to commence the operations of a full fledge credit bureau for the Caribbean. The company selected Compuscan Direct as the software provider best suited to meet the market needs of Jamaica and the broader Caribbean.
Regarding the relationship with Compuscan, CDIS' president (and native Bahamian) Mrs. Demettriss Pinder commented, “We have entertained and completed significant due diligence with other, major software providers and prospective partners in the credit bureau industry. These activities ultimately demonstrated to CDIS that the largest providers had a different market focus that was unsuitable for implementation in the Caribbean. By joining forces with Compuscan, CDIS is ready to deploy a proven, scalable solution that is already meeting the needs of developing markets in Africa and elsewhere. Moreover, the Compuscan solution provides the ability to incorporate additional functionality as each bureau and market matures."
She added, "CDIS has known from the beginning that a 'single bureau model' will not work in the Caribbean. Besides existing and proposed laws that prohibit the exportation of consumer information, there is a strong feeling that each nation of the Caribbean must maintain its sovereignty. CDIS understands this and has developed a business model that allows for this to be achieved."
Mr. Roberto Giannantoni, Managing Director of Compuscan Direct also did not hesitate to share his enthusiasm about the new partnership with CDIS. He commented as follows: “We are ready to venture outside our African boundaries and we are extremely proud on partnering with CDIS and excited about entering into the Caribbean region. We look forward to building a long term relationship with CDIS, achieving the required goals and supporting them throughout the entire credit bureau lifecycle. With such a highly experienced, strong management team, there is no doubt that CDIS will succeed in the credit referencing business.”
