The 15 day tour begins on arrival in Delhi with a warm welcome with fresh flower garlands, before visiting the more traditional and famous sites including Agra and the magnificent Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Slightly less known by the outside world, a visit to Deshnok’s fascinating temple of Karni Mata, an incarnation of Durga, is not for the squeamish. Here the holy rodents are considered to be incarnations and run riot over the temple complex.
The tour continues with visits to the Thar Desert, the honey-coloured fort at Jaisalmer and Udaipur. There is no place in Rajasthan which appeals more to the imagination of poets and painters, travellers and writers than Udaipur, an oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan. The tour ends back in Delhi, which is when you realise that the India of Slumdog Millionaire is not exclusively for millionaires and that the energy, sights and sounds of Rajasthan are available to all.
