Seattle Seahawks wide receiver TJ Houshmanzadeh made recent headlines for his announced boycott of EA Sports Madden NFL 10 video game over disagreements with the skill stats of his on-screen counterpart, but it was another part of Housh's quote that caught the ear of a professional video gamer.
Denton, Texas resident Patrick Scott Patterson is listed in the Guinness Gamer's Edition 2009 as the World Record Champion of Madden NFL 08 and has two verified World Records on Madden NFL 09 with Twin Galaxies, the official online database of video game scores and statistics, on both the XBox and Nintendo Wii. Patterson gained attention in the gaming community with a 192 point margin of victory on Madden NFL 09 a few months ago and is a staunch NFL fan.
Houshmanzadeh's quote regarding the boycott read: "I understand I averaged 10 yards a catch, but it's the offense, not me. I'm not playing Madden no more until they get my rating right. ... I used to be the best in the world at Madden. I'm going to miss not playing it, but until they do me right, I'm not playing it any more."
Patterson felt TJ's claim to being the best in the world at the Madden games was questionable unless he lifted the Madden boycott and proved it, making his remarks known in a Madden Roundtable article on TwinGalaxies.com on August 12.
“He also claims in his quote that he was the best in the world at Madden Football, but isn't going to play it anymore until they 'get him right' or whatever," Patterson told TwinGalaxies.com "Honestly... if he wants to claim he is the best in the world at Madden he needs to get over himself and play Madden NFL 10 anyway. If he is truly the 'best in the world at Madden' he should have no trouble sending in a Biggest Blowout score that's better than mine. Until he does, such a claim he cannot make, and should not make.”
It is unknown at this time if TJ Houshmanzadeh would accept Patterson's challenge to beat him to the top of the Twin Galaxies and Guinness World Record lists on Madden NFL 10.
