The Hospital Hospitality House of Richmond will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Oct. 3 with the launch of Savor: A Delicious Way to Make a Difference.
Savor promises to be a charitable event unlike any previously seen in Virginia, as it brings together award-winning chefs from coast to coast for an epicurean evening at SunTrust Bank. Three nationally acclaimed chefs will present a five-course menu, wine pairings and cooking demonstrations. The visiting chefs are:
• Thierry Rautureau, the “Chef in the Hat” from Rover’s in Seattle and a James Beard Award winner. A native of the Muscadet region of France, Rautureau brought six years of traditional French culinary training with him when he came to the United States. He has owned Rover’s, named one of America’s top restaurants by Zagat, since 1987. Rautureau is noted for serving fresh regional foods refined by a French accent.
• Martin Yan, of “Yan Can Cook” and Food Network fame. Born in Guangzhou, China, to a restaurateur father and grocer mother, Yan comes by his culinary expertise naturally. A certified Master Chef, he has hosted more than 3,000 cooking shows and taught at the world’s top culinary institutions. His California restaurants offer inventive pan-Asian menus.
• Scott Drewno, executive chef at The Source, the Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Washington, DC. A veteran of Spago and Chinois in Las Vegas and Vong and Ruby Foo’s in New York, Drewno made The Source Washington’s restaurant of the year in 2008. His menus offer modern interpretations of Asian food, putting the emphasis on local Virginia and Maryland produce and regional delicacies such as the Chesapeake Bay blue crab.
Savor will begin at 6:00 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres prepared by some of Richmond’s finest local chefs, led by Mark Herndon of Buckhead’s. Live and silent auctions will feature chef and wine dinners and trips, signed cookbooks and other culinary treats that will tempt foodies and travelers alike.
