The Big Bang from MSI

Soon you will be able to build a PC an mix any kind of video card in any configuration. All thanks to a new LGA-1156 P55-based motherboard from MSI featuring the Lucid Hydra chip. This paves the way for multi-GPU technology in home computers.
 
Aug. 12, 2009 - PRLog -- The upcoming motherboard codenamed "Big bang" is fitted with a chip called Hydra from LucidLogix. The function of the Lucid Hydra chip is to evenly distribute tasks between several GPUs regardless of what kind of GPUs. The Lucid Hydra will fx allow you to mix NVIDIA and ATI video cards in any number or configuration. Furthermore the Lucid Hydra chip will be controlling data transfers between the GPUs and the CPU. All while optimizing performance.

Not many technical details are known about how the Lucid Hydra chip works or about the lane configuration between the chip and the PCI Express x16 slots, but the chip is supposedly capable of linear distribution of the workload between any type of GPU.

Launch date and price of the MSI Big Bang motherboard is still unknown.
