| | Outpatient Department Announced For Asian Games’ Athletes' Village

Aug 12, 2009 – GUANGZHOU, China - The 16th Asian Games (www.gz2010.cn/ en), part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia is announcing that a new outpatient medical department will be set up in the Athletes' Village of the Asian Games Town to provide medical services for athletes and team officials attending the Games.
Mr. Hu Bingjie, Deputy Director of the Medical Services Department of GAGOC, briefed reporters at a press conference on the preparatory work for the outpatient department and medical services in the Athletes' Village of the Asian Games Town.
According to Mr. Hu, the outpatient department, covering an area of 2,500 m2, will be located in the Centre for Resident Services in the Residential Zone of the Athletes' Village. It will be the only provider of medical services in the Athletes' Village and the provider of first aid and emergency treatment in the Asian Games Town.
During the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games, this new medical facility will provide medical services for athletes, coaches as well as officials, media workers and volunteers who enter the Athletes' Village holding official credentials.
Services will be free of charge, and include basic first aid; sports medicine and physiotherapy and medical imaging, covering 12 clinical departments:
• Emergency
• Internal Medicine
• Surgical (including orthopedics and traumatology)
• Dermatology
• Gynecology
• Stomatology
• ENT
• Ophthalmology (including optometry)
• Medical Imaging (including CT, DR and type-B ultrasonic)
• Rehabilitation (including sports medicine)
• Laboratory Medicine and
• Pharmacy
The facility will also give treatment to outpatients transferred from venue-based medical centres, while transferring critically ill patients from the Athletes' Village to designated hospitals of the Games.
Mr. Hu said that GAGOC had named the Guangzhou Medical College as the main operator of the Outpatient Department of the Athletes' Village this January, authorizing it to be in charge of the preparation of the outpatient department and its Games-time operation and management.
Preparatory work is well underway, as the main building structure has been completed, the application for establishment of medical sections has been approved by relevant health administrations; the tendering of medical equipment has started; the catalogue of medicines and medical materials has been reviewed by experts; the plan for establishment of a medical service team has been finalized and the recruitment for medical service volunteers was launched in Guangzhou Medical College on May 26.
The Medical Services Department of GAGOC is working closely with Guangzhou Medical College for preparations for the Outpatient Department of the Athletes' Village, aiming to provide convenient medical services for athletes and team officials.
