As reported by some papers about “auto industry making a rebound” is highly questionable. Japanese as a whole are not interested in just cars they want something new. Toyota users are more in numbers than any other maker, even inside Japan. But from the situation seen on the ground, it seems like lesser people wanting cars. Some dealers are worst affected than others and the total sale of new cars in Japan is reported to be one-third from the same period last year.
So what is the situation of used cars business in Japan. Recent polls show that from previous year there are about 40%-50% lesser used car exchanged to the new ones. There is a constant fear that due to the senior citizens now rising and making a sharp gap in the population, there might be more decrease in drivers/owners. Auto giants such as Toyota & Nissan are constantly improving their products and announcing new models with new technology. One concept is that maybe the owners are looking more in their cars than just a ride. Famous brand Cube from Nissan has today announced a “Auto Top” camping versions available shortly for same price as of Toyota Prius. But is this the final solution, nobody is so sure.
Used car prices are also rising because of a simple formula of “availability & demand”. The used Japanese cars auctions are a visible site of the difference in quantity from last year. USS Tokyo is far more the biggest online auto auction of Japan, and it is seen that from previous year of average 15-16,000units per week, this year it is only 1bout 10,000 units per month. Inspite of every sales effort the people have not shown greater interest in Cars purchasing or selling. Unlike 1980’s when Japanese were throwing away their cars after running 100Kkms., now it is different. Yes it is crisis situation in 2009.
