Aug. 11, 2009 - PRLog -- On the month of August started the marine turtle nesting at the Wild Life Refuge La Flor, Nicaragua.  Each year among July and January thousand of marine turtle of the category Paslama (Lepidochelys oliveacea) arrived in groups of thousands to lay their eggs on the beach. During nesting period at night is possible to observe more than 10,000 mother marine turtles on the beach.

Approximately among 45 and 55 days later the little turtles start hatching and thousands of small and dark turtles emerge suddenly from the sand and go to the beach. After the first escape from predators on the beach, the little creatures meet with fishes ready to enjoy meals easily. At the beginning turtle life is not easy, the large number of turtles entering in to the sea makes possible that some of them grow up and get adults.

You can visit the Wild Life Refuge “La Flor” during the day or night, however, to observe marine turtles we suggest to go at night when sand temperature is low and mother turtles are getting out of the water. The refuge is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. From the Hotel Parque Maritimo el Coco we arrange tours at night to observe turtles laying eggs. The price range from 19 to 25 and includes entrance at the refuge, transportation and a guide.

During the last two weeks at playa el coco we have release 254 baby paslama turtles. This small turtles haves been artificially incubated at our nesting spots. At the moment we have 5 more nests that should be hatching at the end of August.
