Follow on Google News | Hospital's Annual Golf Outing Supports Cancer Care and PreventionIn addition to the ideal playing conditions and the inspiring challenge, South Nassau’s golf outing raised $220,000 in support of the hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
By: South Nassau Communities Hospital The major difference between the two events: the 220 golfers who entered the South Nassau golf outing played under variable sunshine and seasonable temperatures, while Tiger Woods, Lucas Glover and Phil Mickelson battled delays caused by heavy rain and unseasonably cool temperatures during their four rounds of golf on Bethpage Black. In addition to the ideal playing conditions and the inspiring challenge, South Nassau’s golf outing raised $220,000 in support of the hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. It also featured the special pairing of classic pop singer and songwriter Eddie Money with East Rockaway resident Jim Adelis and his son, Thomas. Mr. Adelis was the lucky winner of the hospital’s "Play Golf with Eddie Money" auction, provided by Long Island Radio Group. He and his son had the thrill of playing 18 holes of golf with the famed classic rock star. Fittingly, the honoree of the 25th Annual Golf Outing was David Widmer, president and general manager of Barnstable Broadcasting's Long Island Radio Group. Mr. Widmer has become synonymous with the South Nassau golf outing, and until this honor, perhaps his most memorable moment in golf occurred in 2007 when he recorded a hole-in-one during the South Nassau golf outing. “Mr. Widmer has been a vital friend and advocate of South Nassau Communities Hospital’s mission to meet the healthcare needs of the communities it serves,” said Elizabeth Nardone, vice president of development. “We thank him as well as our generous sponsors, participants and volunteers who, like him, continue to support our hospital year after year.” The presenting sponsors of the 2009 golf outing were Bartlett, McDonough, Bastone & Monaghan, LLP; Island Medical Physicians P.C.; South Shore Radiation Oncology; B&G Industries; Caduceus, Inc.; Signature Bank and The Long Island Radio Group.
