A new Free Widgets website has launched at http://www.free-
A free widget is a piece of code that can be used by embedding it into some HTML code which puts it in the web page. A widget adds some information or content to a page that is dynamic – it is constantly changing such as the time on a clock. Generally widgets are created by third party software developers, though you can certainly make your own. Embeddable snippets of code have been around since the beginning of the internet. I am not sure if Al Gore had anything to do with Free widgets or not, but I suspect he did have something to do with it. Al Gore, and other important developers have been after using someone else code in their own web pages. It make sense to not have to reinvent the wheel, so many software developers try to reuse code or free widgets as much as they can. If someone developed a free widget, then why not try to use it. Early web widgets provided information such as clocks, and link counters, weather and advertising banners.
