Dattatreya Siva Baba often refers to the coconut as an aspect of divinity. There are three eyes to a coconut, and this relates to the three eyes of Lord Shiva. In India, any important undertaking is begun by breaking coconuts. Ancients believed that this ritual gave some protection to the native, by warding off evil eye and are found effective even today.
Once Lord Shiva proceeded to wage a war against a demon, which had been a menace to Gods and Devas alike. He proceeded without getting the permission of Ganesha, taking his son for granted. This enraged Ganesha much. In his anger, He caused the axis of the Chariot in which Shiva, his father, was travelling to break. Then Shiva pleaded guilty before his son. Only after offering his respects to his own son, the Supreme God Shiva could proceed further in his mission. The temple where this happened is close to Chennai and the rituals for April 24 will be performed here.
According to Vedic Mythology, the Moon and Lord Ganesha don’t get along. The story goes to say that the Moon was proud of his beauty and insulted Lord Ganesha for his physical appearance. Lord Ganesha got furious and cursed the Moon to wane. This 4th waning moon is an appropriate day to perform this pooja to Ganesha as the Moon is debilitated on this day.
The offering to Ganesha eliminates the problems either foreseen or unforeseen. The nature of the 4th Moon is destroying. This power of destruction is used to destroy obstacles. The 4th Moon also has special powers to remove stubborn karmic blocks in the areas of finance, relationship and health.
Lord Ganesha is the overlord for Kethu. People especially who are undergoing Kethu’s major period (Dasa) and sub-period (bhukthi) should offer rituals to Lord Ganesha or if Kethu is afflicted in the natal chart of a person, then they must worship Lord Ganesha.
