The rules for the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) also knows as “Cash for Clunkers” officially began at the end of July. Despite all the confusion and the $2 billion added in funds, Hare Chevrolet in Indianapolis is going strong with over 50 clunkers in less than 2 weeks!
If you are wanting a brand new Chevrolet, the best method to find out if your vehicle qualilfies is to go to the GM & Car Allowance Rebate System website, type in your current vehicle and the vehicle you would like to purchase. The site will then tell you instantly whether your vehicle qualifies and if so, what amount it qualifies for based on the new Chevrolet that you would like to purchase.
If the vehicle you are interested in purchasing is not listed, then it does not meet the criteria for fuel-efficiency savings over the combined MPG of your trade-in vehicle. Though your vehicle is not eligible for the CARS Program, Chevrolet still has great offers on outstanding new and used Chevrolet vehicles.
You can then contact Indiana’s Largest New and Used Chevrolet Dealership, Hare Chevrolet, at 888-827-
Here is a checklist to ensure a smooth process:
Don’t forget these documents when you come visit us and are ready to purchase a new car under the Cash for Clunkers Program!
1. A valid driver’s license.
2. A clear title in your name or jointly owned with your name included. If you recently paid off a lien, you should bring your lien release letter or the previous title that is stamped paid.
3. Proof of continuous insurance for the past year. Documents to bring can include:
•A declaration page from your insurance policy showing dates of coverage
•Insurance cards that cover the last 12 months
•A letter from your insurance company certifying continuous insurance
4. Proof of continuous registration. Documents to help prove this include:
•Registration cards that cover the last 12 months
•Registration search report (dealer can run this report)
5. A print-out of the www.FuelEconomy.gov website page that shows that your clunker qualifies. This will save you time from assuming that your car currently qualifies.
