The much hyped and first ever 12 mega pixel camera phone from Sony Ericsson has now been given an official release date as a SIM free and unlocked mobile phone.
Formally known as the Sony Ericsson Idou the new Sony Satio is simply a name change, none of the features or technology outlined in the Idou have changed.
The Sony Satio is Sony Ericsson’s new flagship phone. They have gone the whole nine yards with the camera of the Satio (previously known as the Sony Idou), they’ve given it a 12-megapixel camera with xenon flash and touch focus. The camera is hidden under a sliding cover.

The Sony Ericsson Satio will be the manufacturers most powerful camera phone to date and has now been given a confirmed release date as a SIM Free mobile phone on 31st August 2009.
The Sony Ericsson Satio is pleasingly solid, though light, with build quality reminiscent of Sony Ericsson more robust metal based feature phones. It is finished with metallic materials that re-inforce the feeling of solidity. The camera slide is smooth and similar to other high-end Cybershot devices. Indeed the whole device, subjectively, feels smaller that the pictures suggest. Unlike the Sony Xperia X1 the device is smaller than Sony Ericsson’s other high-end phones.

The OS that the Sony Ericsson Satio runs on, is a new user interface of the well-known Symbian OS based on the S60. That’s the first implementation of the spanking new opens-source Symbian user interface developed by the Symbian Foundation.
