Spacelocker has changed Sign Up!

Spacelocker Sign up has changed! No more automatic invites from address book. New members now can manage and have control who to invite.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 10, 2009 -
Spacelocker has changed. We’ve simplified the way new members can invite friends when they sign up to the website.

Spacelocker is founded on friendship: the interaction between friends, both old and new alike. We expected that people joining Spacelocker would want a fast and easy system to invite their friends to be a part of The Happiest Space On Earth. So we created a two-form sign up procedure.

The sign-up procedure gave a new member the option to choose whether or not they wanted Spacelocker to invite their friends automatically. The note on the sign-up page read, “If you sign up on the left side form with a web based email account and existing password, Spacelocker will invite your friends to join you by sending invitations automatically to the contacts in your email account. If you do not want your contacts invited, use the right side form with any email account, including web based, and create a new password . . . ” The note also linked new users to a blog further explaining this procedure, and in bold red letters, we directed new members to read a note on the sign-up page.

Some new members neglected to read the notice regarding the two methods of signing up. Although they freely chose their sign up method, they later complained that they did not want to invite their friends to Spacelocker.
Although most new members clearly understood the two-method sign-up procedure, we continue to look for ways to help all new members better understand how to sign up. We now have that new method.

We’ve maintained our two methods of sign-up, so that the left side form still allows easy verification. However, if a new member chooses to use the left side form to sign up, we now ask whether they want to invite the friends in their address book to join them in Spacelocker: Click Yes or No. If they choose No, they continue with the sign-up procedure without invitations to their friends. Why anyone would want to exclude their friends from Spacelocker remains a mystery.

If the new member clicks Yes, then another window opens to collect friends from their address book and allows them to choose some, all, or no friends to invite to join them in Spacelocker. All are checked by default. The new member can select which friends they do not want to join them in Spacelocker  individually or with a button that allows them to clear all the checks and then invite friends individually.

After deciding who to invite, new members click on the red Confirm button to proceed with the sign-up process.
The new member signing up on the left side form now has three opportunities to decide which friends they want invite to join them in Spacelocker. We expect that new Spacelocker members will enjoy better control over inviting their friends to join them in the website, and we hope you’ll be happy to welcome all your friends, old and new, to share your Spacelocker experience.
