New Peace Movement Launchs Website

Aug. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- NewPeaceMovement.Org Launches Website in Commemoration of Hiroshima

The NewPeaceMovement.Org launches website  in memorial of the atomic bombing of Japan on August 6 and 9th.

The mission of the website is to empower the peace movement by empowering the new generation of peace advocates. NewPeaceMovement.Org calls on peace advocates from all generations to teach, support, mentor the new peace advocates especially in college. Our goal is to have a successful collage peace group at every State University in the United States.

 The website includes interviews of peace activists, scholars and saints. In addition to pages on activities at the United Nations and Peace Study programs offered worldwide, the “True Wikipedia Project” plans to enlighten Wikipedia on peace topics.

 Joe Cicero is a teacher and Peace Activist.  "After being raised during Viet Nam, the riots, the assassinations, the protests, Kent State and Watergate, I studied Political Science in order to understand politics and how to prevent war. Attending college in New Mexico, the birthplace of nuclear weapons, I became aware of the urgency of preventing nuclear war."

In response to the Anti Iraq War Movement and the impending war with Iran in 2006,
I became aware that the college peace movement was missing and needed to be revived and empowered.  I have worked as a Political Consultant on local, Congressional and US Senate races.

Cicero has studied and taught Martial Arts since 1974 and holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Karate.  “Karate is the embodiment of the New Peace Movement. Karate has always been taught as a method of self-defense and non- aggression.  The word karate is translated as empty hands or weaponless hands. Since martial arts were developed by Buddhists Monks, the principal of non-violence permeates the art."

The key factor in the revolutionary election of Barak Obama was his anti-war vote and Anti-War Commitment.  President Obama realizes that real peace through real strength includes diplomacy. There have been a precious few times in modern history when the door of peace has been open and the opportunity exists to change the world. This is one of those times. This Website is a call to action to take advantage of this opportunity.

According to peace scholar David Cortright "Overcoming war involves more than words...It demands action. It requires an alternative, a moral equivalent, a means of translating the universal longing for purpose into strategy for serving the common good. Building peace is that alternative, a commitment guided by ethical principles, chastened by the lessons of history, and embodied in the experience of practical peacemaking."

“As a World Superpower it is both practical and ethical to create peace”, Cicero said,  “We are the leaders we have been waiting for. Now is the time to discover and rediscover the New Peace Movement.”
