The night features acoustic and live band performances, raffles, and more.
By: Theresa Auletta This 21+ event will be a full night of music featuring a wide range of both acoustic and full band performers including My Summer, Mike Del Rio, All Grown Up, Family Lumber, Valerie Rose Giannotti, Meredith Plummer, and Lisa Bianco. A raffle will be held throughout the event. Last year’s prizes included an autographed Mets baseball, IPod shuffles, T-shirts, and gift certificates to local restaurants. Volunteers will also be dispensing pamphlets and information sheets about domestic violence and the Coalition’s services. Entry to the event is a $10 donation to SCCADV, in cash or as items for their Safe Harbor Shelter. The shelter’s wish list includes new clothing, personal care items, household items, baby care items, books, and children’s’ Domestic Violence has become an important issue in the world today and affects us all. So much so, that Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy’s family violence task force has developed a public awareness campaign designed to expose and abate violence, called “Silence Breeds Violence.” According to the Victims Information Bureau, domestic violence is the single most common cause of injury to women in the United States. Domestic violence reaches far beyond physical abuse. It’s a growing problem that can only be countered with through awareness and outreach programs. This benefit concert hopes to address this often taboo subject with good times and great music. Please see the event website, http://www.facebook.com/ # # # For over thirty years, the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a not-for-profit 501(C) (3) organization, has been dedicated to providing a wide range of services to victims of domestic violence in Suffolk County. The support of the community has made it possible for the Coalition to continue to expand its programs to provide vital services to the more than 6,000 people who reach out t them for help each year. Programs include a 24 hour hotline, shelter, counseling, employment training, police and court advocacy, legal services, and community prevention/education. End
