Ray Buffer, Artistic Producing director of The Relevant Stage Theatre Company, and one of the performers in THE LAST FIVE YEARS had this to say about working with photographer John Mattera - "John is a professional who I trusted to capture moments in the lives of two people (played by Marla McClure and myself) who find love but perhaps not at the right time. His challenge was to find these moments and help us to portray them - compressing a 5 year relationship into a series of 6 photo shoots over a three week period."
Photography clearly plays an important part in this realization of Jason Robert Brown's musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. Throughout the production, images are seen over the actor's heads. The audience is provided with a glimpse into the photo album of a couples dysfunctional relationship. Mattera's storytelling images combined with powerhouse performances by McClure and Buffer, and the musical arrangements of Robert Gross provide a unique, poignant and mesmerizing musical event not to be missed.
