11 years ago today Jerry Christensen elected to compete in a mountainbike race rather than support his football team that was volunteering in another event. Jerry was the only 15 year old rider in the expert/pro division so all he had to do was finish the 26 mile race.
This is where the story gets exciting....
On the first lap of the race Jerry was in second place attempting to establish a first place position when he lost control of his bike. Jerry went over a 2 inch ledge and was airborne for approximately 40 feet before landing on his head. His helmet was slammed into the ground so violently it resulted in a 2 inch crack. He then skidded down the mountain 140 feet (nearly 50 Meters) over rocks, boulders, and sagebrush before coming to a stop. He was still conscious at the base of the mountain which means he was awake for every boulder he slammed his head into.
In the helicopter to the nearest major medical hospital Jerry's heart stopped twice and by the end of the hospital stay Jerry's prognosis was grim to say the best. The experts who worked with Jerry told his family he would not be able to keep a job for more than 2 months and he would never be able to go to college.
Jerry went onto have a miraculous recovery that has included earning a 4 year degree in Psychology with honors. It took him 4 years and he went to 4 post secondary schools in 4 states and 2 countries to do it. He was accepted to graduate school to pursue his goal of being a Clinical Psychologist PhD before he turned it down to focus on helping people rather than learning how other people helped people.
He wrote about the entire journey in his first e-book "Brain Shift Part 1 - A Path To The Perfect Life" and is currently writing "Brain Shift Part DUH - The Evolution Of Desire" which will be a strong contender for a Nobel Prize in Literature.
He has branded himself "The Brain Guy" and founded Brain Shift Technologies in order to get the education, he invented, of full recovery out to the world.
